Step 1
Drop
Artifacts drop from certain stages, mostly Legend Stages. The Hidden Sand world is the standard farm: Legend Act 1 → SND1, Act 2 → SND2, Act 3 → SND3 and SND4, at roughly a 50% drop rate per clear.
Relic Loop, Refining & Shared Drops
Artifacts are the relic-style system behind the game's most grindable Secret unit. They drop from Legend Stages, can be refined with Umbral Splinters to raise their odds, and are opened in a portal where every player picks from one shared pool.

Step 1
Artifacts drop from certain stages, mostly Legend Stages. The Hidden Sand world is the standard farm: Legend Act 1 → SND1, Act 2 → SND2, Act 3 → SND3 and SND4, at roughly a 50% drop rate per clear.
Step 2
Spend Umbral Splinters to refine an artifact and raise its reward odds. Splinters come from Legend Stages and the gold shop, and community reports put the cost near 500 per refine.
Step 3
Talk to the artifact NPC beside the story area and enter the portal for that artifact type. If you join another player's portal you must bring the same artifact type with you.
Step 4
When the stage ends, every player who brought an artifact chooses one reward from the full shared pool — you can take a reward a teammate rolled. Groups are also reported to receive a drop bonus.
Refining is the only way to move an artifact's rare-reward odds. The figures below are community-reported rather than developer-published, so treat them as guidance for budgeting Splinters rather than exact guarantees.
Unrefined
2%
Baseline roll straight out of the Legend Stage.
Refined (1x)
4%
One Umbral Splinter refine.
Perfected
6%
The sweet spot most farmers stop at.
Ascendant
10%
Highest reported odds; the expensive end of the grind.
The entire Madaro (Edo Tensei) unlock runs through this system — he cannot be summoned from the banner at any rate. You farm Hidden Sand Legend Stages for the SND artifact set, refine for Madaro's Tablet to start the quest line, then craft the Ghost Gunbai from the lower-tier SND artifacts before clearing the Hidden Sand Ghost's Trials. Artifacts also feed crafted units such as Starku (Primordial) via the Crafting NPC.
Because everyone picks from the same shared pool, a group run multiplies your chances of seeing a rare reward — you can take a tablet a teammate rolled.
Portals are per artifact type. Bring the same type as the host or you cannot enter, so coordinate before you queue.
The grind is a volume game: run the highest Legend act you can clear on auto and refine only the copies you intend to open.
Artifacts drop mainly from Legend Stages rather than normal Story. The Hidden Sand world is the most farmed example: Legend Act 1 drops SND1, Act 2 drops SND2 and Act 3 drops both SND3 and SND4, at roughly a 50% rate per clear.
Umbral Splinters refine an artifact and raise the odds of its rare reward. Community reports put the cost at around 500 Splinters per refine, with Madara's Tablet climbing from 2% unrefined to 4%, then 6% at Perfected and 10% at Ascendant. Splinters also come from Legend Stages and the gold shop.
You open an artifact by entering the portal for that artifact type next to the story area. When the stage ends, every player who brought an artifact picks one reward from the full shared pool — so you can take a reward another player rolled. Joining someone else's portal requires you to bring the same artifact type.
Yes. The Hidden Sand artifact set gates the entire Madaro route: Madaro's Tablet starts the quest line, and the Ghost Gunbai is crafted from parts that come from the lower-tier SND artifacts in the same Legend map.
